Dec 2, 2008 - Sweet, i just litteraly started Jujitsu today, i find it really helpfull towards everyday situations i.e muggings and "being started on" etc.thanks for posting the video =)

ToraJutsu01 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - agreed, jujutsu is the way of least resistance, it deserves something flowing or asian stings or wood winds

Dec 2, 2008 - These kind of demonstrations serve as a vehicle for martial artists to display their techniques. However, unless techniques are drilled and trained against against resisting uke's (eg in sparring) they will not give practitioners the opportunity to learn how to apply them. It's a bit like trying to learn how to swim while lying on the floor and doing the breast stroke; eventually you're going to have to get wet.Put what you know to the test. In the real world your opponent is not so compliant.

TheMauler79 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Can't help but feel you are stating the obvious there. These are videos demonstrating techniques only, much like you will find for any martial art, including BJJ. Their purpose is as a revision aid to show the techniques. I don't see why anyone would conclude from seeing them that they are always trained with zero resistance, or that this is an approach that is advocated. Sensei Parker has also competed in boxing and is a judo black belt, this is not an association that needs to be enlightened

tubofile Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - you are correct. You cannot assume that that the drills are totally compliant. Do you train at these clubs?

TheMauler79 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I do train at a Jikishin club

tubofile Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I've trained in various martial arts but will always prefer ju jitsu because of its' eclectic nature. What sort of training drills do you do at your club?

tubofile Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - Where do you train?

TheMauler79 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I prefer to remain fairly anonymous, but I train Jikishin in Essex and with Checkmat (vieira brothers) BJJ. Training drills are numerous and varied I guess, but lots of sparring and random attacks for pressure.

tubofile Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - when you say "lots of sparring" do you mean BJJ or jikishin?

TheMauler79 Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - I was referring to Jikishin.I like to compete at the national comps, in stand-up fighting and groundwrestling. There is far more sparring in my BJJ class, because it's a largely practiced as a sport rather than focused on self defense. I think random attacks are good for testing the ability to carry out techniques, as well as training against resistant partners

tubofile Says:

Dec 2, 2008 - can you give me the cintact details for the competitions.?
