The dance looks similar to the Filipino "tinikling" or "singkil" dances because the indigenous Tsat of Hainan are an Austronesian peoples, the same group that the Filipinos, Taiwanese aborigines, Malays, Indonesians, Cham and even Pacific groups belong to. One thing that is constantly seen across western Austronesian (and Austro-Asiatic speaking) cultures are bamboo dances, like this one :)
