San Sim, a Marine who was killed in Afganistan, Oct 22, 2008, His family is from Cambodia, he was born in the Philippines and not yet a citizen of the USA. Lance Cpl. San Sim came from a family of pacifists. His birthplace, the Philippines, was ever a reminder of their journey from the terror of the Khmer Rouge. But after Sept. 11, 2001, Sim decided to fight. Sim was shot to death while on routine patrol in Afghanistan this week, near the end of his third tour of duty. He was 23. Afghanistan was Sim's third tour abroad; he served twice in Iraq. Jan 6, 2009 - RIP Sim. I too was a Marine who is cambodian. When I was in I meet 5 Cambodians who were in the Marine Corps. Not too many of us join the service
