Despite steel chain wraps on tyres for added traction, too deep mud can still be unpassable. Technique from the logging industry is the use of the winch. Surplus winches from WorldWar2 (therefore American made by GMC) have been altered to mesh with Japanese engines. All on/offRoad buses in the Philippines run on Jap diesel engines.
